Monkeys Fly formed in Southampton early in 2006.
They debuted in Southampton at the legendary Joiners Arms and were well
received by an enthusiastic and energy filled crowd who quickly nicknamed
the band FMF. Their musical style has been described in a variety of
interesting ways:-
"big fun garage rock" - "Sugar meets Pixies, meets Tony Bennett" !? but none so apt as "tricksy geek-rock". Demand for recorded material came quickly and FMF hurriedly recorded their first demo songs in a make shift studio at Mike's house in early 2006 and published them to an eager audience via MySpace. This was followed in July with a trip to a 'proper studio' where 7 tracks were recorded, four of which appeared on FMF's first CD, the 'She' EP. The popularity of the FMF MySpace profile continued to increase partly because of the interesting array of Monkey pictures but mostly due to the regular, amusing blogs by Wing Commander Flying Monkey. Live performances throughout 2006 included venues in Southampton, Bournemouth, Salisbury and Winchester and the FMF boys were always well received. Since then FMF have continued to gig in and around the South Coast and in September 2008 recorded their second EP - Answers on a postcard Sign up to MySpace and become a friend of FMF to receive regular updates on gigs and other band activities. |
